Need help on changing manual gear oil

Postby tedalice » Tue Jul 27, 2010 1:10 am

I know where the oil plugs are, but I just can't remove the bolts. It seems like a 3/8 wrench head fits in, but it just won't do the job. please let me know what special tool i'll need and how to remove the bolt with it.
thanks guys.

it is a 3/8 wrench head. you might need to get some more muscle on it but is should with just the wrench and a small extension. It has lock tight on it so the first time will take some ump. When removed you are going to need some type of hand pump to remove all the gear oil. One of my favorite tools is a foot of 3/4" copper tube that slid over my old craftsman wrench. it gave just the extra length needed for the tight bolts. Now i have replaced that with a harbor freight ratchet that has a telescoping handle.

I suggest using a long 1/2 inch drive ratchet or breaker bar with the 3/8 adapter on it. It will give you more torque to crack the bolt with 1 turn. Be careful not to play with it. Make sure it is very secure, because if it starts to slip & strip, you will have lots of problems thereafter.
