Springs too soft?

Useful information if you plan on stiffening up your ride for autocross, or simply dropping it down an inch or two.

Springs too soft?

Postby Moff_ant » Sat Nov 19, 2016 1:51 pm

So I replaced the stock springs and struts on my 03 SX.
I got the KYB struts and the B&G Suspension S2 Sport Springs.
And now my car sits so low it rubs in the back on every turn, on the outside of the tires against in inside of the fenders and even on the inside of the tires against the struts.

Also on 1 or 2" bumps from like a patch to fill in a whole, i can hear my springs compress so much they hit the body of my car.

I had to have my muffler redone bc backing up it got knocked over and they said the springs may have been heated too much.

So did i get bad springs? Was something not installed right? Am i missing something?

I am considerring buying a different set, maybe the Eibach ones, they seem to lower ride less.

BC and sprint springs always seem to tuck the rear more that was needed. are they used are new springs? if used over time that can loose shape and cause drooping

they are brand new, had to wait like 6 weeks for them to be made.

I guess I need to take a video of what it sounds like when I drive.
Since I have the day off I will try to motivate myself to go take some pictures of them on my car.

Anyone got pictures of what the spring area looks like with lower springs AND/OR new struts?

I took some and I just dont know enough to tell where the problem is.

Plastic shroud? If so you have a wheel rubbing. What's your tire and wheel setup? Have a lot of weight in the trunk?

Have a lot of weight in the trunk? 15" tims, not stock rims but same exact size, trunk is always empty, I dare not put anything in it.

I honestly think, the springs are way way too short and they almost dont hold up the car, because I can feel the car take a "hit" like the wheels suppressed the springs so much they body/frame takes the full hit of the bump, OR some part is missing.

I took pictures when I lifted my car up to change its oil.

ok, I think I count 6 coils, is that the right number or maybe they're not tense enough and too soft.

And what about the strut dust cover, like it seems super short, its not long enough, maybe the struts are meant to lower the car too much?

those are aftermarket springs, most likely they have just gotten soft over the years and your 1.5 inch drop is now 2.i would exchange them for some stock spring and it will solve your problem.
